ATEK Medical Experiences Growth as OEM Device Makers Seek Outsourcing Partners for Total Solutions

Grand Rapids, MI (Vocus/PRWEB) March 17, 2011

2011 promises to be a growth year for medical device manufacturers as the economy picks up and healthcare providers start seeing patients who have put off medical procedures during the downturn. ATEK Medical, an established outsourcing partner for Class II and III finished medical devices and disposables, is seeing this growth first-hand. The company recently helped Smith & Nephew, U.K., meet its launch date for a new wound care product and is also working with ThermoGenesis Corp., California, to scale up production of its stem cell processing system.

Smith & Nephew contracted with ATEK Medical to handle the high-volume, sterile kitting process for a new wound care product. ATEK became not just the kit provider, but also the supply chain manager for materials from multiple suppliers, including future ETO sterilization management.

ThermoGenesis Corp. is also partnering with ATEK Medical?with the goal of scaling up production of its AXP AutoXpress? system for processing stem cells from cord blood, in order to meet increasing worldwide demand. ?We reviewed a number of potential bag set suppliers and selected ATEK based on their high level of expertise and strong track record of producing Six Sigma quality, state-of-the-art disposables and medical devices,? said J. Melville Engle, CEO of ThermoGenesis.

ATEK Medical collaborated closely with ThermoGenesis to ensure high-quality, reliable production for the AXP. They also tapped sister company ATEK Plastics to manufacture two critical components for the system while managing the supply chain for the process.

?With the addition of ATEK, we have easily doubled our suppliers? capacity to produce bag sets, which is essential for our fiscal 2011 growth strategy,? Engle went on to explain. ?ATEK will facilitate our ability to meet what we believe will be a continuing increase in demand for the product.?
